President: Ukraine is on final stage of fulfilling criteria for signature of Association Agreement
14.10.2013 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
"Ukraine is about to fulfill all the criteria necessary for signature of the Association Agreement with the EU," the Head of State emphasized.
«Currently, Ukraine is on a final stage of fulfilling the program that we call „the list of Füle“,» the President noted in the course of the last week meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle, President Viktor Yanukovych Press Office reports.
«I am confident that the way we are going jointly opens new opportunities in the nearest future and the atmosphere of trust will facilitate it,» the President noted.
Viktor Yanukovych expressed gratitude to Štefan Füle for the participation in the National panel discussion of the issues of European integration held in Kyiv. «This discussion is necessary for politicians, society and our relations with the EU,» the President stressed.
According to him, the day before, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the instruction on preliminary approval of the draft law on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine on the strengthening of guarantees of judges independence that had been coordinated with experts of the European Council and the Venice Commission.
«I hope that the Constitutional Court will make a positive decision on the given law and at the next session, the constitutional majority will vote for it under the laws of Ukraine,» the Head of State said.
According to Viktor Yanukovych, the final version of the Draft Law «On Public Prosecution» will be considered by the Venice Commission the following week. The Head of State reminded that experts of the Venice Commission, representatives of political parties and General Prosecutor Office had been working over the given draft law.
«Such coordinated edition of the law was elaborated and submitted for consideration of the Venice Commission,» Viktor Yanukovych said.
The President noted that the most pressing issue on the way to European integration is the issue of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
«The mission of Cox-Kwasniewski is functioning, we are working jointly, looking for options and I hope that in the nearest time we will finally decide on the solution of the given issue,» the Head of State emphasized.
In his turn, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy expressed content with the increase of interaction between the EU and Ukraine.
According to him, this interaction is based on two pillars. «The first is the great progress of Ukraine in fulfilling the conditions necessary for signing the Association Agreement. It brings Ukraine closer to the EU. The second is the enhancement of political dialogue with Ukraine and the expectation of developments after the Vilnius summit,» Štefan Füle said. European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy expressed gratitude to the President for supporting the National panel discussion of the issues of European integration.
«We had a very good conversation and I think that absolute majority expressed desire to organize the next round of panel discussion after the Summit in Vilnius,» he said.
According to him, the given event promotes cooperation between authorities and opposition on the agenda of the European integration of Ukraine.
European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy expressed content with the fact that his estimation of the progress of Ukraine on the way to European integration and that of the President were the same.
«I was very pleased to hear that your assessment of the progress to be achieved and the issues to be solved was the same as mine,» he said.
According to Štefan Füle, Ukraine has a clear understanding of the reformation of election legislation and public prosecution bodies.
He agreed that the decision on the issue of Tymoshenko must be found within the mission of Cox-Kwasniewski.
«I agree that the decision must be made and it should be found within the mission of Cox-Kwasniewski,» he noted.
Štefan Füle emphasized that he was expecting the «Eastern Partnership» Summit with optimism.
«I am optimistic about the Summit in Vilnius and the developments after it,» he said.
