Ukraine will produce gas from coal

Gas necessary for the industry and heat and power engineering will be produced from coal. This was stated by Mykola Azarov at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on August 29, 2012, says Mykola Azarov Official Website.
Head of Government noted that recently a protocol on cooperation with the China Development Bank had been signed for mobilization of resources against state guarantees to the total sum of more than $ 3.5 billion for implementation of coal gasification projects.
"That is, gas necessary for the industry and heat and power engineering will be produced from coal, — Prime Minister said. — At the same we will replace outdated thermal generating units with high-tech ones, which are extremely effective and burn coal with no harm to the environment. "
As a result of implementation of only the first five projects under this agreement a fundamental strengthening of energy security of the country is expected in the next few years as well as further reduction of natural gas imports by more than 3 million cubic meters. It will be also possible to save each year at an average of $ 1.2 billion and about 150 million hryvnia of budget expenditures as replacement of gas value for thermal energy production to the public is to be reduced. A stable market is also expected to be provided for domestic coal enterprises of up to 10 million tons of raw coal per year, moreover — a creation of 15,000 new jobs and retaining those jobs that exist at coal producing enterprises and thermal power facilities.
