The White House Brewery – home of Obama’s Ale

Barack Obama has openly admitted that he occasionally enjoys a cold beer after a long day, but who knew that he has his own brewery in the White House? An official from Obama’s circle has admitted that the president’s brewery makes its own brand called White House Honey Ale. He also added that Obama always keeps this beer in stock for special occasions like the Super Bowl and is known for taking a couple of bottles with him during tours.
President Obama’s fascination with brewing his own beer came to light during his three-day re-election jaunt across Iowa. Obama made a stop at one of Knoxville’s coffee shops where a man started chatting to him about beer. Afterwards Obama presented a bottle of his own White House Honey Ale as a gift to the man. A spokesperson admitted that the White House has a brewery that produces two types of ale — light and dark. The honey portion of the drink is taken from First Lady Michelle Obama’s garden beehive.
Though it is quite an unusual hobby for a president, Obama is far from being the only one to indulge in his hobbies. Besides a brewery, the White House has a variety of recreation rooms and facilities for the First Family. In 1975, President Gerald Ford ordered an outdoor swimming pool to be built near the tennis courts. He swam daily and once even gave a press conference from the pool. Later on a pool cabana was added to provide swimmers with a place to shower and change their clothes. The cabana is also connected to the White House through a secret underground passage. During Clinton administration an outdoor spa was built next to the swimming pool.
President Ulysses Grant enjoyed racing his horse and playing billiards. He often entertained his guests at the White House with a game. Teddy Roosevelt was probably the most active president, as he often enjoyed jujitsu, wrestling, boxing, and tennis. He also enjoyed a number of outdoor activities including horse riding and hunting. Bill Clinton’s best-known hobby was playing the tenor saxophone. Lesser known was his passion for crossword puzzles, reports Forbes Magazine.
Dwight Eisenhower was so fond of playing golf that once he ordered the removal of a tall pine tree on its 17th hole because it sometimes got in the way of his long drives. The 36th President of the United States Lyndon B. Johnson loved spending time on his ranch in Texas, where he would often drive drunk around his property. He also liked to prank his guests during gatherings by pretending the brakes had failed and then driving the car into a lake.
