Ukraine, Russia settle 'cheese' problem
04.04.2012 13:26 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukraine and Russia have settled the issue of imports of the Ukrainian cheese to Russia, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Petro Poroshenko told the press on Tuesday.
«We have achieved quite serious agreements that allow us to have an optimistic view on the issue of compliance of Ukrainian production standards, to be supplied both to the Russian market and the market of the Customs Union. Relations in the area of national control by Ukraine will be settled, and import restrictions on the Ukrainian cheese from the Russian side will be removed after considering the observations that the Russian side had put forward during the inspection,» the government official said, UKRINFORM reported.
According to him, inspections at two other factories will soon be organized, and the Ukrainian side will create all conditions for the work of Russian partners.
Poroshenko emphasized that the Russian side did not file claims on the safety of Ukrainian products, and the current situation is due to technical inadequacies.
According to experts, the total exports of domestic goods to Russia were 68,000 tons. Therefore, the ban on supplying the Ukrainian cheese to Russia has caused cutback in production because businesses were forced to close their facilities. The purchases of milk from households also decreased, which, in turn, affected the price of raw milk.
