President: Ukrainians should be made real owners of their own land

Citizens of Ukraine should become the real owners of their land, which is the main task of land reform, President Viktor Yanukovych said, while talking to the media in Kamyanets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi region.
«The most effective manager of land is its owner. And we must make sure that land has the effective owner at last,» he said, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.
Speaking about the current situation at the domestic land market, Viktor Yanukovych said that there are unfortunately all the conditions for the existence of corruption and shady land schemes. «Certainly, we can not tolerate this… Just like the fact that land owners cannot get the proper rent price. We must bring this matter in order,» he said.
The President emphasized that the proper functioning of land market in Ukraine will have a positive effect on the state’s economy as a whole. «When this resource is available in the state, it will work for its economy,» he said.
Viktor Yanukovych also noted that the implementation of land reform requires making several important steps. «We have approached the creation of land registry to finally see the real situation with land resources,» the President said.
«Step by step, we will solve the issue of land market,» Viktor Yanukovych said.
President promised that land market in Ukraine would start functioning by the end of 2012. «We will not stop and will move only forward in this matter,» Viktor Yanukovych said.
