Ivorian cocoa arrivals seen 15 pct over yr-ago

21.06.2011 11:38 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Ivory Coast cocoa output is running about 15 percent over last year and the industry is on track to beat a 1.3 million-tonne target for the season, exporters said on Monday. The outlook is good news for the world’s top cocoa grower, which is recovering from a months-long post-election power struggle that killed thousands and brought the economy to its knees before easing in April. Cocoa arrivals to ports in the top grower nation hit 1,197,000 tonnes by June 19 since the start of the season in October, versus 1,036,839 tonnes during the same period last year, exporters said. «The numbers show that we are on the right track,» said a purchases manager at a European firm based in Abidjan, who said he expects full-year output of 1.35 million tonnes. «We hear a lot of people talking about it and I think it is a real possibility given that we are already at about 1.2 million tonnes and we have three months left during which we expect at least another 150,000 tonnes,» said another exporter based in Abidjan.
