Poroshenko signed foods labeling law

05.02.2019 19:16 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of yesterday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko the law «On information for consumers about food products» (No. 8450), Interfax-Ukraine says referring to the Verkhovna Rada website report. It is to be admitted, the draft law № 8450 was developed up to the Chapter IV of «Sanitary and phytosanitary measures of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU». This document is aimed at bringing the Ukrainian legislation in accordance with the provisions of the EU Regulation No. 1169/2011 of Oct 25, 2011 on providing consumers with information about foods. As to the report, the new law sets a demand to provide the Ukrainian consumers with information on whether a food product has been defrosted (given that freezing and subsequent defrosting of certain food products limits their future use and may affect their safety, taste and physical qualities). Besides, the new law also cancels the requirement to provide nutritional information as for certain categories of food products which didn’t undergo processing or for which the nutritional information is not a determining factor for consumers to make purchasing decisions or whose packaging area is too small to contain all the information.
