First, "make it work" says candidate for UN chief Vesna Pusić

As of yesterday, while passing the process of selecting of the new UN Secretary-General, Vesna Pusić, a senior Croatian parliamentarian, who was the second candidate to appear at Informal General Assembly Dialogues, said the first priority for the new UN Secretary-General should be «to make the organization work», UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Vesna Pusić said that her native country Croatia had managed to make the transition from war to a stable peace, following the Balkan wars of the 1990s, thanks in part to the UN.
Also, she said that even if none of those vying for the top job at the UN wanted to be first and foremost a skilful manager, that was the vital prerequisite.
«My first order of business would be to try to make the organization work. To try to run the organization as it is, and as we find it now, rather than try to run an organization as we wish it would be, one day. And then gradually make it simpler, resolve problems, make it more effective as we go along,» Pusić admitted.
Ms Pusić added that the decision-making and reporting process inside the UN, needed to become simpler, and more transparent.
She admitted that holding public, if early and informal Dialogues for the post of Secretary-General, was a «great thing» in the spirit of a new, more open era.
It is to be admitted, presently there are nine candidates in the running; four women and five men; the final round of briefings is to take place today, on Thurs.
