Poroshenko vetoed law on electronic declarations system and returned it to Parliament with proposals agreed upon with EU

As of the last week, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko vetoed the Law «On Amendments to Several Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Peculiarities of Submission of Declarations on Property, Income, Expenditures and Financial Obligations in 2016 by Civil Servants» and submitted it to the Ukrainian Parliament with proposals agreed upon with the EU, Government Portal reports.
«I have made a decision to veto the law and return the draft law to the Parliament as the urgent one. I call on the Parliament to consider it on Tuesday,» Poroshenko informed within the meeting with Ukrainian NGO representatives on the discussion of the introduction of the e-declarations system.
As to the report, the President noted that the proposals elaborated by the Presidential Administration and civil society had been approved by the EU.
Poroshenko admitted he had received a letter from EU with respective conclusions signed by European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn and European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos.
As to the report, the President said that senior officials would be obliged to submit e-declarations within 2016. He also noted that significant violations in the declaration would result in criminal responsibility.
Reportedly, Poroshenko emphasized that this document would help Ukraine continue its struggle against corruption.
«This is a result of our common work and responsibility with civil society. Ukrainians have all chances to travel to the EU without visas already this year,» Poroshenko said.
As to the report, the President urged the people’s deputies to adopt the draft law on the next week Tues.
