Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy enhances country energy efficiency and food safety

The Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food is taking measures to improve energy efficiency of Ukraine and implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, Government Portal says referring to report made during a briefing at the House of Government by the Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Ihor Shvaika and the Deputy Minister for European Integration Vladyslava Rutytska.
Ihor Shvaika noted that in order to strengthen the energy independence of Ukraine, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy takes measures to substitute natural gas for agricultural companies and provide them with biofuels.
«Presently we can provide the equivalent of 10 billion cubic meters using timber for the next three years, the amount we buy today from the Russian Federation,» the Minister said.
At this he stressed that biofuels are cheaper to use as compared to natural gas.
In turn Vladyslava Rutytska stressed that the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, following the approved by the Government Plan of Implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, should develop a plan of execution of the document for the half-year and for the next three years. Moreover, the department continues to work on harmonization of the national legislation with the EU laws.
Besides, Rutytska also said that the Ministry plans to develop a comprehensive model for all sectors of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine. Also, as to her, the Ministry will provide training and assistance for the medium-sized companies «so that they could receive appropriate certification in order to ease their work and be able to get to the EU markets».
