US President calls on all nations to cut greenhouse gas emissions

24.09.2014 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — While speaking to the Climate Summit participants at UN headquarters on Tuesday, the United States President urged every country to cut greenhouse gas emissions in a bid to halt climate change, Government Portal reports. As to report, Obama told the Climate Summit that the United States is committed to building a climate resilient infrastructure. He said the nations that contribute the least in harmful carbon emissions often stand to lose most. President Obama called on all countries to work together. «We recognize our role in creating this problem. We embrace our responsibility to combat it. We will do our part and we will help developing nations do theirs. But we can only succeed in combatting climate change if we are joined in this effort by every nation, developed and developing alike. Nobody gets a pass.» President Obama said that he was directing the country’s federal agencies to begin factoring climate resilience into international development programmes and investments. Besides, the US President also announced a new effort to deploy what he called the «unique» scientific and technological capabilities of the United States to help vulnerable nations to prepare for weather related disasters and better plan for long-term threats like steadily rising seas.
