Temnyk: During 2010-2013 housing and utility sector reduced gas consumption by 10%

Alongside with the preparation for the heating season, energy saving actions are being implemented at the heating utilities. During the preparation 667 boilers were reconstructed, 1126 boilers were replaced, 1073 boilers completely renovated, 478 km of heat networks were replaced. Reconstruction of boilers and replacement of heating systems, which was conducted during the preparatory period, will allow us to achieve gas savings of up to 5% already this year. This was stated during a press conference at Ukrinform by Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Gennadiy Temnyk, Government Portal reports.
«For example, Vice Prime Minister has recently opened a cogeneration unit in Ivano-Frankivsk region, there are some units in the city, and it allows simultaneously produce heat and electricity. Economic impact from implementation of the project will amount to 465 thousand per year,» the Minister said.
He also informed that for the period 2010–2013 due to the implementation of investment programs in the field of heating 3393 boilers were modernized with the introduction of energy efficient technologies and equipment. 375 boilers converted to alternative fuels. 862 km of heat networks reconstructed using pre-insulated pipes.
«Generally, by upgrading the heating system and the introduction of alternative fuels, the consumption of natural gas was reduced by 1.1 billion cubic meters or by 10%,» Gennady Temnyk said.
By the end of 2013, according to the Head of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services, 100% technological record of heat energy supplied to consumers will be implemented at the heat supply facilities. Currently 93% of heat sources are equipped with meters.
