President: Ukraine continues to diversify its energy supply sources

Ukraine continues to work over diversification of energy supply sources. It was stated by the President in the course of TV project «Dialogue with countries» within last week, President Viktor Yanukovych Press Office reports.
«We are searching ways to diversify sources of gas supply,» the Head of State said.
He stressed that Ukraine paid the highest gas price in the world — around 530 USD per 1000 cubic meters. «The problem of providing gas to Ukraine has probably been one of the most difficult issues for our country for 3 years already,» the President noted.
Viktor Yanukovych noted that Ukraine reduced gas consumption each year — from 41 billion to 20 billion cubic meters. Also, Ukraine increases its own gas production. «For three years in a row, we are increasing the production of our own gas. We are reducing gas consumption, introducing energy saving technologies, replace gas with other energy sources, particularly with coal and coal blends,» Viktor Yanukovych noted.
He also stressed that the construction of three plants producing synthetic gas would begin soon. «Moreover, we have found ways to receive gas from abroad,» the President emphasized.
The Head of State added that Ukraine continued negotiations with Russia over the gas issue. «We didn’t stop negotiations with our Russian partners and we significantly advanced in them. Still, we haven’t made a final decision. There is a plan, we are working under it and hope to find a compromise in order to reduce price for Russian gas,» Viktor Yanukovych said.
He expressed confidence that Ukraine and Russia «can restore normal relations in gas sphere». «We are optimistic. Despite all the difficulties, I can say that we have passed a huge examination. Our country, Ukrainian people, our industry and producers of goods have preserved our national interests and significantly advanced in the context of energy saving programs,» the Head of State noted.
Viktor Yanukovych also assured that gas prices wouldn’t increase. «We will not raise prices for population or industry. Today, our population pays real market prices,» he said.
