Meat products producers against meat import duties lowering down to 10%

As to associations Ukrptakhoprom and Tvarynprom
representatives press-conference declaration, domestic meat products
producers are against Cabinet proposal of meat entry duties lowering down
to 10%.
Kateryna Vashchuk, people deputy, told Ukrainian People Party
also objects to meat import duties lowering down to 10%, since duties
curtailing will result in agricultural companies financial condition
sharp worsening.
«We want cheap meat products, yet we don’t want to deprive our
peasants of their last possibilities,» said Vashchuk.
«If Customs Tariff changes are accepted, this autumn we will
face a terrible
situation,» added Vashchuk.
As earlier reported, Cabinet proposes VR to low meat entry duties down
to 10%; simultaneously, Cabinet proposes VR creating meat reserve fund in
order to carry out domestic market meat interventions for prices
stabilization.
VR is going to examine meat entry duties draft Law on Apr 7 (Thurs).
SPU against meat import duties lowering down to 10%
Agro Perspective (Kyiv) — As to letter of Oleksandr Moroz
(SPU leader),
addressed to President Viktor Yushchenko, Socialist Party of Ukraine
(SPU) is against Cabinet proposal of meat import duties lowering down to
10%.
SPU is convinced in case entry duty gets curtailed down to 10%
Ukrainian market will become overstocked with cheap meat of dubious origin,
resulting in most domestic agricultural companies bankruptcy.
As to SPU, there is an alternative domestic market protective
system with usage of combined customs clearance (being presently
practiced in EU). This system implies the same goods may be imposed
different duties upon (either as goods cost percentage or as goods weight,
volume or quantity percentage), depending on market situation.
Besides, SPU suggests it is necessary to stimulate domestic producers by
cheap
crediting/flexible taxation implementing as well as regulating import
quotes to equalize domestic market imported/Ukrainian goods prices.
As to SPU, presently VR has draft Law stipulating 300.000t
meat import quote introduction.
As earlier reported, domestic meat products producers are against Cabinet
