Excellent Weather for Dry Bean Crops

Excellent weather has promoted good dry bean crop progress in all regions, according to the latest update from Thompsons Ltd. Harvest in Ontario and Manitoba is expected to get started sometime within the next three to five weeks.
Ontario: Another week of good growing conditions allowed the edible bean crop to make significant headway. Fields are now showing a colour change suggesting that harvest could begin in 3–4 weeks in many of the earlier planted fields. Mold and anthracnose, although present in many white bean fields at low levels, does not appear to have gotten any worse over the past week.
The forecast calls for favourable weather for the coming week. The crop looks very good.
Michigan:Beans continue to look good throughout most of thumb. There was good moisture again last week and the heat has really brought the crop along. The forecast calls for good weather conditions for next 7 days with slight chance for thunder showers mid week. No issues being reported at this time.
Manitoba: Average temps last week were 25–28 C; cool nights early in the week then hot right through on the weekend with temps yesterday and today at 30 plus. Moisture the last 2 weeks varies from 3/10th to 1.8 inches, with most fields having very adequate moisture for the moment. Forecast is for very warm this week with rain showers tomorrow, Thursday and Friday.
Maturity will be a bit ahead of last year due to more heat. Some yields will be in the 2,200 lbs/acre, range but due to drown out areas some fields will be more in the 1,500 lb range. Harvest is estimated in 3 -5 weeks.
Mindak: The weather has been ideal for the crop’s development. Temperatures were in the mid 70’s to low 80’s during the day time hours and overnight lows around 60. There was no rain to speak of this week. There has been heavy dews most mornings which continues to produce the right conditions for the development of white mold. The forecast for next week calls for temperatures in the 80 degree range for day time highs and 55 to 60 for overnight lows with a chance for rain showers mid week.
The crop remains on pace for an early start of harvest as some of the crop is starting to turn.
