Saudi Arabia paid approximately $228 per ton for wheat

08.07.2010 12:33 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Saudi Arabia’s grains authority hassaid it paid an average of $228 perton, cost and freight included, for itslatest wheat purchase, which was for990,000 tons — one of the biggest wheattenders this year. The Grain Silos and Flour MillsOrganization (GSFMO) paid $240 CFper ton for 495,000 tons of wheat witha 14 per cent protein content and $216CF per ton for 495,000 tons of wheatwith a 12.5 per cent protein content, itsmanaging director, Waleed Al-Kharijitold the news media. ’We managed to get a very competitiveprice … I think we are doing better interms of prices after every tender,’Khariji said in a telephone interview. The wheat was of Canadian andGerman origin. ’It is 990,000 tons, plusor minus 5 per cent. … German origins outweighed the Canadian origins,’Khariji added. GSFMO said the wheat would bedelivered between October this yearand April 2011. It said 10 cargoes wouldbe shipped to the Red Sea port city ofJeddah with eight going to the easternport city of Dammam. ’This tender will enable us to haveenough supplies until April,’ he said.Asked when GSFMO will issue itsnext tender, he said: ’We will studythe market and see when the price isright. We have issued the tender for the990,000 tons because we deemed thetiming was right in terms of prices’. Khariji said GSFMO’s next tender’could be for less than half its latestpurchase’. European traders said the tender hadbeen called last week.
