Agrarian Committee recommends Rada to toughen milk quality control

15.03.2007 09:30 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Committee for Agrarian Policies and Land Relations has recommended Verkhovna Rada to tighten milk, milk resources/products quality control in order to assure country population qualitative products provision. Committee took corresponding decision on Mar 13. Committee recommended VR to approve draft Law № 3047 «About Bringing Changes into Law of Ukraine About Milk and Dairy Products» in first reading. Agrarian Committee proposed establishing control over milk/milk resources by means of additional certificate introduction, namely Certificate on Animals Epizootic Safety (to be issued by country State veterinary medicine institutions); control over dairy products quality was suggested to be effected through introduction of Ukrainian State Sanitary-Epidemiological Service certificates (to be issued in due order). Within Committee meeting Petro Verbytskiy, Deputy Ministry of Agrarian Policy, said Certificate on Animals Epizootic Safety will cost as much as UAH5,0. Committee members admitted these changes are highly necessary to prompt country dairy branch companies work quality improvement. Besides, Committee is convinced Ukrainian dairy products quality needs to be controlled more strictly to assure Ukrainian goods successful competitiveness on RF/WTO markets. As to Agro Perspective earlier report, in 2006 Russia had banned Ukrainian animal products (incl. dairy products) import due to quality problems.
