FAO: Poorer countries set to be ‘more and more dependent' on food imports

Poorer countries with rising populations and scarce natural resources are likely to be «more and more dependent» on imports to feed their people, UN Radio says referring to an annual report jointly compiled by the OECD and FAO.
It is to be admitted, the report is titled OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2018–2027.
As to the Outlook, although overall exports from countries and regions with plenty of agricultural land are forecast to boost, there needs to be an encouraging trade policy environment — as the agricultural trade plays an important role within food security.
As to the Outlook, undernourishment is now concentrated within conflict-riddled and politically-unstable countries. Thus, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries are facing simultaneous challenges of food insecurity, rising malnutrition and managing limited natural resources.
It is to be admitted, the Outlook forecasts a fast rise of the agriculture and fishing sectors within the developing regions whose populations are boosting fast, including Sub-Saharan Africa, South and East Asia and MENA. These areas are facing the challenge of limited land and water resources as well as extreme-weather related issues of climate-change, resulting in high dependence on food imports.
The Outlook forecasts global improvements of the agricultural crops and food productivity, and, simultaneously, a global demand decline which will reduce the price of most food articles within the coming decade.
