Ukrainian President took part the commemoration of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp victims

28.01.2015 11:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of yesterday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his wife were taking part in the commemoration of the victims of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports. As to the report, together with the Head of State, former prisoner of the concentration camp, 90-year-old Anastasia Huley and 90-year-old participant of the battle for the liberation of prisoners of Auschwitz-Birkenau Mykola Karpenko came to the concentration camp. Also, the event was attended by representatives of delegations from over 40 countries. Particularly, except President of Ukraine and President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski, the event was attended by President of France Francois Hollande, President of Germany Joachim Gauck, President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite, Presidents of Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland and Malta, King Philippe of Belgium with Queen Mathilde of Belgium, Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands with Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. The participants of the ceremony took part in the common prayer for the innocent victims of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. After that, the attendees will pass through the so-called route of death with lighted lamps — the way of camp prisoners to crematoria where they were burned. Then, the participants will put the lamps on the memory boards.
