People across globe who want a just, peaceful world connect

17.07.2014 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — People around the world are sharing pictures of themselves holding signs that say «Justice Matters» on their social media accounts on Thursday, International Criminal Justice Day, UN Radio reports. As to report, International Criminal Justice Day is observed annually on 17 July; the Day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute, the founding treaty of the International Criminal Court (ICC). It is to be admitted, the World Court, located in The Hague, is the first permanent international criminal court established to try individuals for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. The ICC aims to address impunity for these serious crimes and bring justice to the victims through independent, fair and impartial trials. The new social media campaign aims to raise awareness of the vital need for international criminal justice worldwide, and to connect those who strive for this important cause. People are also asked to go on the social media platform twitter to send messages using the hashtag «Justice Matters» and «17 July» to show their support to the ICC. The International Day unites all those who wish to support justice, promote victims’ rights, and help prevent crimes that threaten the peace, security and well-being of the world.
