EP ad hoc delegation to visit Kyiv in late January

An ad-hoc delegation of twelve Members of the European Parliament will visit Kyiv on January 28–30; the decision has been adopted on Thursday by the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs at its extraordinary meeting in Strasburg, NRCU reports referring to Ukrinform.
«An ad-hoc delegation of twelve Members of the European Parliament will travel to Kiev, Ukraine, on 28–30 January, to assess the situation on the ground. MEPs intend to meet with Maiden Square protesters, opposition parties, representatives of Ukrainian government and judiciary and civil society organizations,» reads a statement available on the European Parliament’s website. It is noted that conclusions of the MEPs’ mission will feed into the European Parliament’s post-Vilnius summit report «Assessing and setting priorities for EU relations with the Eastern partnership countries» (rapporteur MEP Pawel Kowal), which will be adopted later this year. Led by EP Foreign Affairs committee chair Elmar Brok (EPP, DE), the delegation will also include MEPs Jose Ignacio Salafranca (EPP, ES), Jacek Saryusz-Wolski (EPP, PL), Ana Gomes (S&D, PT), Marek Siwiec (S&D, Poland), Tonino Picula (S&D, Croatia), Johannes Cornelis van Baalen (ALDE, NL), Werner Schulz (Greens, DE), Pawel Kowal (ECR, PL), Helmut Scholz (GUE/NGL, DE), Jacek Olgierd Kurski (EFD, PL) and Adrian Severin (NI, RO). As Ukrinform reported, the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament (the governing collegiate body at the level of the EP President and leaders of the political groups) at its meeting in early December 2013, deciding the fate of the Cox-Kwasniewski monitoring mission, resolved, if necessary, to send a special parliamentary delegation to Ukraine.
