Ukrainian grain market becoming less dependent on world prices

05.12.2013 14:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Active development of the agro-industrial complex (AIC) allows Ukraine to rapidly boost exports of agricultural products, as well as intensify trade and economic cooperation with other countries, ForUm reports referring to the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Ukrainian Cabinet. Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food currently is holding talks with countries of the Black Sea basin to establish a Black Sea grain exchange. Experts believe that Ukrainian grain market will become less dependent on fluctuations of the world prices. «I am not happy that agrarian exchanges become manipulators and sell short. And it is very difficult for us to deal with the world brokers alone. So, we aspire to launch the Black Sea Grain Exchange sooner or later,» said Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food. Experts say that such an exchange can be a tool for the Black Sea grain pool, if members include other grain-exporting countries of the Black Sea basic along with Russia and Kazakhstan. For the record, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported earlier that based on the grain yield performance in 2013, the export quotas for these crops will not be introduced. It is also important that the government is prepared to abolish mandatory certification of grain. This will allow farmers to intensify exports, thus saving up to 3 billion USD annually.
