Prime Minister urges to stop escalation of political tension

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has addressed the society and all political forces with an appeal to cease escalation of political tension. He declared that in his opening speech at the Cabinet session on December 4, 2013.
Mykola Azarov stressed that on December 3 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with the majority of votes had expressed trust to the Government.
«It is an unambiguous decision of a single legitimate legislative authority of our state,» the Head of Government stressed. «This fact must be taken as a legal fact by all those who really respect European democratic values: parliamentary opposition and political forces outside the Parliament, public activists and our partners abroad».
At this Mykola Azarov expressed gratitude to Parliament’s members for very significant and well-weighted decision taken in the strained situation.
«Today I address the society, all the political forces with an appeal to stop escalation of the political tension, feel responsibility for the fate of our nation at last, for the peaceful development of Ukraine,» the Head of Government said. «We hear correct calls of our foreign partners to avoid violence. These calls are addressed to the authority as well and I underline to all those who are outside. The authorities have demonstrated restraint, maximal tolerance and readiness to a dialog. The very civilized approach must be in behaviour of those who are participating in the protests».
Instead, certain political forces, not having any constructive plan, are encouraging street protests for violence, unlawful seizure of administrative and public buildings, hampering work of state institutions. It is a criminal offense, Mykola Azarov stressed.
The Premier urged the citizens to stop, not to yield to provocations of those who encourage people to street protests.
«The Government addresses the citizens who wish to state their position: we are ready to support any peaceful legal forms of protests. We are even ready to support peaceful picketing of those authorities to the work of which pretension exists. We will protect the peaceful pickets and, certainly, the rights of the citizens,» the Premier said. «But we demand to stop the outrage and unlawful actions, and to hold protest rallies exceptionally in the forms envisaged by the Constitution and laws of Ukraine».
