UN listens to "A Million Voices" to help set global development agenda

12.09.2013 09:21 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — More than one million people, half of them under the age of 30, have participated in a year-long «global conversation» aimed at shaping the future, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told journalists in New York on Tuesday, UN Radio reports. Alongside UN Development Programme (UNDP) chief Helen Clark, and surrounded by school-age children, Mr. Ban launched the report ’A Million Voices: The World We Want.’ He said people everywhere want to help set the global development agenda in the period following the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). «Above all, these million voices tell us that we have a big and urgent job ahead: to agree on a new development agenda that carries the same simplicity and strength as the MDG framework - an agenda that serves both people and the planet,» Mr. Ban stated. The Secretary-General said defining a post-2015 development agenda will help recalibrate efforts to eradicate extreme poverty and chart a course to a world of prosperity, peace, sustainability, equity and dignity for all.
